About Us
KaziCollect started as a frustration with how disconnected waste collection was in Kampala — no schedule, no visibility, no way to know if anything was actually being recycled. This is who’s building the fix, and how we got here.
A note from the team
Founding team, KaziCollect
Before the platform existed, most of us had tried some version of the same workaround — a phone number scribbled on a wall, a collector you hoped would show up, a bag of plastic that probably ended up wherever the rest of it went. There wasn’t a way to know.
KaziCollect is our attempt to make that whole chain visible and accountable — for the household booking a pickup, the collector earning from it, and the plant that finally does something useful with the material.

Every pickup should be traceable from the doorstep to wherever the material ends up — no black box in between..

Pricing and payouts are set so collectors earn a living wage per pickup, not whatever's left after everyone else takes a cut.

We test in real zones with real collectors before rolling anything out, rather than optimizing for what looks good in a pitch.

A pickup that shows up on time beats a flashy feature every time. We'd rather be boring and dependable.

We don't launch everywhere at once. Each new area gets collectors who know it before we open bookings there.

Generators and collectors can see their own history and reports at any time — nothing is locked behind a dashboard only we can read.
Our Path
Inclusion
Many collectors were already doing this work without any formal recognition. We run a short onboarding track that gets independent waste pickers verified, insured, and earning through the platform instead of outside it.
Education
A short in-class program that teaches students how waste is actually sorted and where it goes, built around the same categories collectors use on the app, so the concept isn’t abstract.
Cleanup
One Saturday a month, collectors and generators in a zone team up for a free community cleanup — no booking, no fee. It’s usually how we meet the next zone we expand into.
Beyond The App
The marketplace only works if there’s a healthy chain around it — so some of
what we do doesn’t happen inside the app at all.
Recycling
Take pre-sorted plastic waste directly from scheduled and on-demand pickups.
Recovery
Handle electronics collected through households and business accounts.
Civic
Share zone-level data to help plan public collection points and routes.
Finance
Power in-app payments and collector payouts across every plan.

If you’d rather build something you can watch drive past your house than something purely theoretical, we’re usually looking for a few more hands — operations, engineering, and partners
